How do I embed the player?

There are a few options for embedding the player. These options are located at: http://bit.ly/aplive

There are three embeddable options: the Full Width Embed, the Thin Embed, and the Player Embed option

  1. The Full Width Embed is best for embedding on Web sites looking to take full advantage of AP's editorial content offerings including photos, video clips, text news and multimedia interactives. The dimensions are 730px (w) by 655px (h).

To embed the Full Width Embed, click the Wide Embed button. You can view a preview of what this will look like by clicking on the red "Full Width Widget »" link.  The Full Width Embed is also integrated with Twitter and Facebook chats, and it also has feeds for Oscars photos and articles. You’ll also notice the yellow Top Nominees tab, which launches in its own iframe. To embed the Full Width player, just select the embed code, copy it, and then paste it where you want it.

  2. The Thin Embed is perfect for blogs and Web sites looking to incorporate the player within their pages. The dimensions are 300px (w) by 1100px (h). You can view a preview of what this will look like by clicking on the red "Thin Widget »" link.

To embed, just select the embed code, copy it, and then paste it where you want it. The Thin Embed is also integrated with Twitter and Facebook chats and also has feeds for Oscars photos and articles. You’ll also notice the yellow Top Nominees tab, which launches in its own iframe. To embed the Thin Embed player, just select the embed code, copy it, and then paste it where you want it.

  3. The Player Embed can be customized for size but does not include AP Video On Demand, social media functions or news and photos. You'll see you can resize the player width for both the standard AP LIVE Player, and the OSCARS LIVE Player. Just type in the width you'd like, and then click resize. The embed code will change automatically (the height will adjust itself in ratio to the new width you've inputted). Because of this customization ability, the Twitter, Facebook, Oscars photos, and articles features, as well as the Top Nominees tab are all unavailable with this version of the player. To embed, just select the embed code, copy it, and then paste it where you want it.

Easy copy and pasting: Press "Ctrl+C" on a Windows computer ("Command+C" on a Mac) to copy the embed to your clipboard. Press "Ctrl" + V on a Windows computer ("Command" + V on a Mac) to paste.

Are there Web sites where I can't embed the player?

Yes. You won't be able to embed the player on Web site that blocks Javascript or iframes.

The video is playing back choppy, or it freezes altogether. What's wrong?

Problems like these are most usually caused on the end-user side. Poor hardware performance (low processing speed, too many running programs, not enough RAM, etc.), low bandwidth Internet connections, or faulty wireless connections are usually the cause of freezing or choppy video.

I've embedded the Player, and I'm visiting the Web site, but I'm not seeing it! I've clicked refresh! What did I do wrong?

First, you'll want to check that you embedded the proper and entire embed code, and didn't include any extra characters or spaces, or left out any parts of the code. Next, try emptying your web browser's cache/temporary internet files folder. Your browser might be trying to load your webpage based on the way it looked last time you visited. Emptying the temporary internet files will force your browser to reload the newest version of the Web site. Sometimes, it might be necessary to close the browser altogether after emptying the cache before you visit your channel again.

What version of Flash should I have?

While its always best to be using the most up to date version of Flash, the player will work with Flash 9 and up. The latest version of Flash is available at: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Where can I download the latest version of Flash?

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

The Full Width Embed Player and the Thin Embed player are both integrated with Twitter chat and the Facebook chat. Users with Twitter and Facebook chats can sign into these accounts, and then update these accounts with tweets/status updates, which will show up within this widget's chat and their Twitter/Facebook account profiles.

How do I share the Widgets/Player Embed?

The player and widget can also be easily shared. Clicking on the Facebook "f" in the player window will allow you to post a link to the player on your own Facebook Wall. Clicking the Twitter "t" will let you re-tweet the link. More sharing options can be accessed by clicking the Share button below the player. You'll be brought to a new window that will allow you to simply copy and paste the Livestream channel link. You can also share with other Social Media sites like MySpace, Digg, Delicious. There's also a link that well let you generate an email with your default Email Program.

What is the maximum number of viewers that can watch my channel?

We don’t currently have any theoretical upper limit of viewers on the player. The maximum number of concurrent viewers that we have seen on one channel has been in excess of 500,000.

How long will the Oscars content stay on the player?

Oscars content will run from March 1 to April 1. After April 1, the player will revert to the AP Live default video player featuring live streaming (and archived) celebrity interviews. Please contact your sales rep for more information.

Can I get traffic metrics? How detailed will the metrics be?
